Our Eyecare in Singapore
Eye Wellness
Many factors may affect how your eyes ‘look’ and ‘feel’ despite seemingly good vision. These range from how dry our eyes are to eyelid problems to corneal surface problems.Myopia Care and Myopia Prevention
Although it is true that Myopia is hereditary, it is also true that we can take steps to prevent Myopia and poor eyesight and lazy eye from rising in our children.Retinal/Macular Degeneration
Our eye works very much like a camera. Just like a camera, our eye has a clear glass window at the front (our cornea), the aperture (our pupil), the focussing lens (our crystalline lens) and the film (our retina). Retinal degeneration is one of the leading causes of ophthalmology-related eye diseases worldwide.Floaters
Almost everyone in Singapore will experience Floaters at some point in their lives. While 90% of Floaters are benign and harmless, about 10% of Floaters may signify a retinal tear, retinal detachment or retinal bleeding in the eye, leading to eye disorders.Glaucoma
Glaucoma can be treated with eye drops, pills, laser surgical procedure, traditional surgery or a combination of these methods as recommended by ophthalmologists. The goal of any treatment is to prevent loss of vision, as vision loss from glaucoma is irreversible.Cataract
Symptoms of early cataract may be improved with new eyeglasses, brighter lighting, anti-glare sunglasses, or magnifying lenses. If these measures do not help, surgery performed by ophthalmologists is the only effective treatment. Surgery for such eye conditions involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial lens. The Asia Retina Way
Our Innovations in Singapore

Ellex Tango Reflex Laser
The Tango Reflex Laser is an all-encompassing laser machine approved by ophthalmologists in Singapore which is able to treat eye conditions like glaucoma, after-cataracts and floaters. The Tango Reflex combines multiple laser treatment into a single laser platform to treat eye problems.

Optos Daytona
The Optos Daytona is an ultra-wide field technology that can capture 200-degree view (or 82%) of the retina in a single high resolution image in less than half a second. The standard retinal photograph captures only approximately 15% of the retina, which is less than half that of optomap ultra-wide field technology.

Iridex Micropulse Laser
Iridex Micropulse Laser Therapy is a non-damaging laser solution for treatment of retinal diseases and glaucoma that is a necessary asset for a comprehensive eye clinic. Unlike conventional laser eye treatments, there is no destructive or coagulative damage to the eye.

Heidelberg Spectralis
The Heidelberg Spectralis Machine is a non-invasive, high-resolution imaging eye screening system that is able to scan the cornea, angles, retina and optic nerve tissues to provide important diagnostic information relating to cornea, glaucoma and retinal diseases. Its resolution is so high that it can show microscopic detail of the retina comparable to retinal histology.

Zeiss IOL Master 700
Zeiss IOL Master 700 is the newest swept-source biometry eye screening system that allows more accurate and precise calculation of the intraocular lens power needed in cataract surgery. It boasts the ability to make detailed calculations in almost all kinds of cataracts. It integrates all the necessary formulas to ensure better calculations for better visual outcomes.

Galilei Analyzer
The Galilei Analyzer by Ziemer combines complex technology like Placido topography and Dual-Scheimpflug tomography to offer the most complete ophthalmology solution for cataract and refractive surgery planning – all measurements with one device acquired within two seconds.

Patient Information
1. What is Refractive Cataract Surgery?
Cataract Surgery is a procedure to remove our degenerative natural lens material which tends to get cloudy and impair our vision as we age. In doing so, a new intraocular lens is implanted into the eye to give good unaided vision (good vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses). Because we are able to correct long-sightedness, short sightedness, astigmatism and even presbyopia with cataract surgery, it is often termed as ‘refractive’, which means we are able to correct your refraction at the same time. At Asia Retina Specialist Centre, we believe in giving all our patients their best visual potential without the need for glasses or contact lenses as far as possible.
2. Do cataracts require surgery all the time?
No, it is not necessary to have surgery if your cataract is mild, slowly progressive, and not troubling you symptomatically. Appropriate eye drops and eye spectacles prescribed by optometrists may be used to improve your vision before any surgery is considered.
3. What is cataract surgery like?
While other eye surgeons may perform the cataract surgery with the patient awake, at Asia Retina, we prefer to have our patients comfortably sleeping during the procedure so that there is less anxiety. Our patients come in or a quick ‘nap’ and when awake, the surgery is well over. All patients have a restful sleep under the hands of our trusted anaesthetists. Almost all patients feel normal the next day after surgery. There is little to no eye pain and little to no eye redness under our surgeon’s hands. You will be required to use eye drops during the recovery to prevent any risk of infection or inflammation.
4. Are treatments fully claimable?
Yes, if you have a MediShield plan, all procedures are fully claimable. In addition, everyone is entitled to claim up to $2450 for cataract procedure from your or your family’s Medisave account.
