Please bring your NRIC or passport for registration, any existing spectacle or contact lens prescriptions, a list of current medications, and any referral letters or previous eye examination reports if you have them.
No referral is required to book a consultation at Asia Retina. However, if your GP or another specialist has provided a referral letter, please bring it along as it may contain useful clinical information.
A first consultation at Asia Retina generally takes longer than a follow-up visit, as it includes a thorough eye examination and, where necessary, diagnostic imaging. We recommend setting aside at least one to two hours, particularly if dilation is required.
Dilation is not always required and will depend on your clinical presentation. If dilation is needed, your pupils will remain enlarged for a few hours afterwards, which can temporarily affect your near vision and sensitivity to light. We recommend arranging transport if you are unsure, particularly if it is your first visit.
Certain procedures and surgical treatments may be claimable under Medisave or covered under integrated shield plans, subject to eligibility and policy terms. Please contact the clinic directly to discuss your specific situation, as coverage varies depending on the condition being treated and the type of plan you hold.
If you wear contact lenses, it is advisable to switch to glasses for at least a few days before your appointment, particularly if you are being assessed for a corneal or dry eye condition. Contact lenses can temporarily alter the shape of the cornea and affect certain measurements. If you are unsure, please check with us when booking.
Avoid wearing eye makeup on the day of your visit, as it may need to be removed for certain examinations. If you are coming for a retinal review and anticipate dilation, arrange transport in advance rather than planning to drive home.

Yes. Paediatric patients are seen for myopia prevention, paediatric eye screening, and early detection of vision problems. Given Singapore’s high rates of childhood myopia, early review is encouraged for children showing signs of deteriorating vision or difficulty seeing at a distance.
Please seek prompt assessment if you experience a sudden loss or change in vision, a significant increase in floaters, flashes of light, a shadow or curtain across your visual field, eye pain, or redness that does not resolve. These symptoms can sometimes indicate time-sensitive conditions.
